The Same Molecule, Different Names# Naming History# The peptide was originally developed at the University of Arizona in the 1980s-1990s by Victor Hruby and Mac Hadley, who created the alpha-MSH analog [Nle4, D-Phe7]-alpha-MSH and named it "melanotan" (later distinguished as "melanotan-1" or "melanotan I" to differentiate it from the cyclic analog melanotan-2)
